Project Development

We offer corporates and investors the opportunity to deploy capital to create new projects for future carbon credits or financial returns

As experienced project developers, working with a wide range of project types all over the world, we offer corporates and investors an impactful way to deploy capital in this complex market, creating new projects for future carbon credits or financial returns.

What is Project Development?

Project development provides up-front capital to finance carbon projects at an early stage, with the expectation that the project will generate carbon credits in the future. The delivery risk associated with these projects is higher than buying credits that have already been verified or issued, or committing to a forward purchase of credits from projects that have already been validated by a third-party standard.

When corporates seek to break new ground by building projects not available on the current market, or to reduce uncertainty and potential exposure to future price increases, project development is an attractive option. We offer a project development solution to investors with capital to deploy in the Voluntary Carbon Market using high-quality carbon projects that we will originate, manage, and commercialize at best value, to maximize returns.

An Unrivaled Network of Global Climate Solutions

Climate Impact Partners was created when two of the most respected and experienced organizations operating in the Voluntary Carbon Market merged to form a world-leading solutions provider.

The combined group has been responsible for the reduction or removal of more than 100 million tonnes of CO2e. We have developed new projects in countries including Chile, Guatemala, India, Kenya, the Philippines, and the UK. Our comprehensive network of partners provides access to more than 600 projects, reducing and removing carbon emissions across 56 countries. We have global reach, long-standing industry expertise, extensive project development capabilities, and unrivaled experience of working with the world’s largest brands.

By expanding a project to new areas in Kenya we are able to enhance the lives of our tea farmers, empowering them to develop sustainable livelihoods, so they may thrive for the long term, despite the impacts of climate change.

600+ projects have been supported by Climate Impact Partners, spanning more than 30 project types

15x McKinsey estimates the Voluntary Carbon Market could grow by 15 times by 2030 and be worth more than $50 billion in order to contribute to meeting the world's climate commitments.

Examples

We work with clients and partners to continually drive the low carbon transformation through new projects which reduce and remove emissions, support communities, and restore a thriving planet.

Bamboo Forestry in Philippines

This project plants native giant bamboo on unproductive land through a partnership between a US-based bamboo construction materials company, the Filipino Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and local and indigenous populations.

Solar Energy in India

The SELCO project uses solar products to provide under-served communities in India with access to energy. The Light for Education program encourages children to attend school by enabling them to charge lights at school, which they can then take home so they can study in the evening. Further educational benefits are delivered by solar panels at schools. These are used to power in-class monitors, which are combined with a program of digital education.

Clean Water and Cooking in Guatemala

In Guatemala, water-borne disease has been identified as a national priority. Ceramic water filters are sold to households in rural communities, so they no longer need to boil water, saving time spent on collecting wood, or money used to purchase fuel. Filters are also donated to schools and health centers.

Advancing Innovation

Over the last two decades, we have built a dataset and expertise that enables us to model the carbon, price, and return profiles of project development options. Our long history in shaping the Voluntary Carbon Market has included:
